Recap of 2024:
We had another great year in 2024. But by the end of 2024 we wonder what could have been. We beat Musselman in our first game 43-14 by out rushing them 361 to 168.In our second game we kept the Sullivan-Potts trophy by beating Harrisonburg 49-6. In our third game at Kettle Run we fell behind at half 28-7 before nearly coming all the way back in the second half. We lost our first game 34-28.We beat Brentsville in our 4rth game 41-0 by out rushing them 240-18. In our 5th game against James Wood we won 57-16. We had a 99 yard interception for a touchdown in this game. Handley also scored the most points in the rivalry with James Wood in the 62 years of playing each other. We beat Fauquier in our 6th game 46-3 by out rushing them 297-89.In our 7th game at Warren County we tied a school record for points scored in a 63-21 rout. We led 42-7 at half. In our 8th game against Liberty, we led 49-0 at half and routed them 56-21. Liberty had 1 yard rushing for the game. In our 9th game against Millbrook we won 48-27. We led 35-0 at half. In our last regular season game with Sherando, tragedy struck. Our first team quarterback broke his leg on our first play of the game. The backup played well but two costly turnovers that Sherando converted to touchdowns cost us the game 28-14. We finished the regular season 8-2. We still qualified for the playoffs and had to travel to Salem for the second straight year. We played very well at Salem, where last year we lost 42-0. We led at half 21-10, but Salem came out in the second half and scored two straight touchdowns to lead 23-21. We scored a touchdown in the last quarter to lead 28-23. Salem took the ball next all the way to our two yard line and with a little over a minute left scored from the two yard line on 4rth down. We took the kickoff past the 50 yard line but was called for a penalty. An interception ended the game. Our starting half back, who had 241 yards rushing in the first half, could not play in the second half because of an injury. We finished at 8-3 a great year, but aside from some key injuries, I keep wondering..what it could have been?
